About the Steel Executive of the Year Award

The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) Steel Executive of the Year award is the most distinguished honor in the steel distribution industry. The award was created in 1956 by ASD to recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions to the industry over a significant period of time.

Criteria

The award is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated the ability to be true leaders in the industry. The award is not designed to recognize companies. While consideration shall be given to participation in ASD, as an active member or participating as a member of the board of directors, it is not an established criterion to measure a candidate’s contributions to the industry. Candidates may be selected from all industry segments including, but not limited to manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and individuals within the industry that have contributed to the growth of the industry or association.

Selection Process

A call for nominations and electronic ballot shall be sent from the ASD requesting nominations from the key contacts of member companies. The response form shall include an overview of why the candidate is deserving of the award.

The selection committee shall consist of the current ASD Chair, who shall serve as chairman, and two past Steel Executive of the Year award recipients from within the ASD, appointed by the Chair. The committee will review potential candidates who have made outstanding contributions in the form of personal, corporate, technical, sales, product or marketing achievements that have benefited the steel industry.

Announcement

Once the candidate has been selected by the committee, a member of the committee shall contact that individual. ASD staff will then contact the recipient to prepare an official announcement for the membership and press. The award shall be presented to the recipient at the Annual Spring Convention.
